Is it Legal?
Is it legal for a CC company to continue charging monthly and yearly fees after closing a card until it is paid off?

I just closed this awful CC I have. They charge a fee for EVERYTHING. They wouldn't even change my name on the account when I got married without the $50 name change fee. Now they tell me that I will continue to get charged the annual and montlhy fees. That is what I was trying to avoid!

You will have to look at the contract you got with the card. Most likely somewhere on there it will say you will be charged this and that as long as there is a balance. If you still get charged AFTER the balance is paid in full, I would raise a concern. That credit card sounds like a nightmare though! Hope you get the balance paid in full ASAP!

PS When you go to make the last payment I would MAKE SURE you call and WRITE in that you are closing the account!

Hope all goes well for you..
