What's going on lately with these declines from merchants? I have a $20,000 limit on this Visa card and pay the balance in full every month (never more than $1500). In the last month or so, I have been getting declines from charges I attempt for more than $100 with a note that says "Please Call". The merchant doesn't want to be bothered, and neither do I so I simply hand them another card and forget about it. This doesn't happen every time, just occasionally. Not just out of the country either, sometimes in my own hometown. I call the Visa customer service number and they tell me that "sometimes" the merchant's bank declines the charge and if that happens, both I and and the merchant need to call and resolve the problem right then and there. There was nothing more she could do about it...She said it happens to all types of cards...she was very sorry for the inconvenience but that's just the way it is...
Come on.
There has to be something going on either with my account, or with processing technology that has caused this change.
Anybody know the inside story?
