Backoffice Work - Internet Merchant Account

Hi. I need some help here understanding the innerworkings of an internet merchant account process.

I would like to know how it works, and the different players involved in the process. It's because I'm having an issue with my processor, and I would like to know if what they're telling me is up to par, or if they are yanking my chain.

They are not the bank, because I know they have to deal with an acquiring bank, but I need to know how they work.
