Discover Business "Special Holiday Offer" 10% Problems
I signed up for Discover Business in November 2007 and was approved. The introductory promo cashback offer on their website for this card at the time was as follows:
"Earn a full 10% CashBack Bonus on your first $2,000 in restaurant purchases and a full 10% CashBack Bonus on your first $2,000 in home electronic store purchases for up to three months after your account is opened. Restaurant purchases are those made at merchants we classify as full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias and fast food locations. Home electronic store purchases are those made at merchants that specialize in the sale of electronic devices used for home entertainment and small electronic products, such as Best Buy and Circuit City. This offer does not apply to PurchaseCheck purchases, merchants that specialize in the sale of home appliances only (such as refrigerators, ovens, and dishwashers), large department stores or warehouse clubs, discount stores and their affiliates. We are not responsible for merchant delays in processing transactions. Promotional reward is in addition to the CashBack Bonus earned on each purchase. Promotional reward will be applied within 8 weeks."
When I received my card, I verified that this was indeed the offer with the rep who handled my validation. However, when I received my first statement, I received only $39.46 in promo cashback despite making restaurant and electronics purchases of over $1800 (my family and I went on vacation)! Essentially, they cut off the 10% cashback on purchases made after 12/14/07. When I have called them, they claim that the cashback offer was only 10% of $200 in purchases, not $2,000, and I should be glad I got the extra $19.46. Well, I'm not.
Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on how to solve it? (I don't have a screen print of the actual signup page - live and learn.) At the same time, I can't find any "10% of $200" offer from the same time period, so I don't know what they are talking about. They have offered to reconsider if I send them proof, but I'm not sure what would constitute proof in this situation.
