Captiol One Credit increase denied!
I called Capital One back in November 2007 and talked to a nice woman who sounded as if she were from India and very hard to understand. I am an old white senior with some hearing loss and I think Capital One must outsource their telephone calls to India. She stated she would increase my credit limit to 40,000 from my current 30,000.00. I waited to see the increase on my internet account, nothing! I wrote a letter on 12/17/2007 requesting an increase, nothing. I called again 1/12/08 and was told that no increase was allowed and that this was no reflection on me and that the company periodically reviews accounts and grants increases at those times only!
I think the problem is that I have no debt, own my house etc. and I am retired with good income. I pay my credit balance every month and have 110,000 in rewards I haven't used. I've been with Capital One for a number of years. I want to put a new truck on my credit card and pay it off in the same month so I can accumulate more rewards points. If I were up to debt to my eyeballs would the company be more likely to increase my credit?
Ok, my question is how can I get an increase in my credit card limit above my current 30,000.00 limit?

You might want to read some of my other posts elsewhere on this topic. You won't get an increase because you are not making Capital One any money. Cap1 won't increase credit limits nor offer retention deals to 1-anybody with past dues or overlimits 2-those who never pay any fees or interest, meaning they're getting something for nothing. You're in group #2. Why should Cap1 allow you to use more of its money, plus give you more reward points and not pay back for the privilege? No such thing as a free lunch...

As for India, FYI I'm not in India, I'm in America, but I was let go in late November when they shipped about 2000 of our jobs over there, just in time for Christmas. Next time you get an Indian-sounding agent, first ask what city they're in -- if they answer Bangalore or some other outpost, just immediately demand an American agent and refuse to continue the conversation with them. They have no choice but to transfer you to a supervisor in America if you do that. Yes I'm bitter about what they did which is why I'm here to make sure you all know some of the behind the scenes insider details that you could use to your advantage.

Very interesting topic and here are my two cents.

Most major corporations do not give a **** if you don't like Indian or Chinese accents, corporations like what makes them profitable. Go to walmart and start flipping the items until you find one made in usa, believe me your hand will give up before you will get one item made in usa.

I believe this is the time for all of us here in the usa to practice to understand the foreign accents because outsourcing will just not stop and it is just not possible to bypass the service calls going to other countries, don't we all like cheap items and services. Walmart is our favorite store! Right!!

I hope we all understand that usa is run by the big profit hungry corporations.

And yes, myself being Capita One customer, It is true that CapOne customer service calls go to India, However, I am very impressed with the quality of service the Indian operators have provided during my recent calls, they were far more courteous than the american customer reps.

Yep. Orchard bank due my good standing offered to me a second credit card with higher credit limit, lower APR, so I decided to get it (A surprise came with the CC. An extra prize for my good standing, a 2% cash back)
I called yesterday to activate it, and I got an Indian guy too... very friendly... far way from most US reps...

I have a hard time dealing with the overseas people working the phone lines. I get SO made when I can NOT understand them. Friendly or not, I want to understand them, LOL just my two cents. As for WalMart, I LOVE WalMart and I am sure those of you who say you hate it, still shop there LOL

I would recommend that you make a few friends from different cultures, I guess you live in a small town so there may not be much choice, however, if you happen to be in Pittsburgh etc, then you will find a lot of people around the world, better yet, attend one of the social gatherings from a cross culture organization. Believe me once you taste it you will get addicted, it is so much fun and excitement that you will wonder why you did not do it before.. Good luck. People are fun!!

BTW, I love Walmart too!!

Well, the answer to the original question is that, probably you have reached the limit of points you can accumulate without making any money for Capital One, sir.

I am an Indian working in the United States and it is great to see how open the culture here in United States is. Its really easy to come here and be a part of the society so easily.

Let me give you another side of the story about Indian accents. I have worked with most major accents across the globe (apart from South Americans) and Americans are really clear and are the easiest to understand. Most of us trying to interact with Americans try to pronounce words in a way that is more understandable for them. And why Americans, in my company in India we recently had some Malaysian and South African associates and we try to speak in a way that is easy for them to understand too.

However, I think this doesn't come too easily to some people. I for one am not very good in pronouncing words differently and muddle up very often. Some of my colleagues can change accents very swiftly. Its just a personal thing I guess.

As for greedy corporations, I guess that is the nature of Capitalism. Now a lot of Indian companies are opening up offices in China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka etc. because the cost of doing business there is even cheaper than India. Money will go, where money can be made. And no country is an exception to that. The internet is bringing the world together and its great to be able to interact with so many cultures in one's life.

Cheers to the world!
