Disputed by Consumer
Hello to all, new here and my first post.

I had disputed a charge on my WaMu card for a charge by a service provider that failed to deliver the service as mentioned on their website. The information I sent, faxed, and certified mailed to WaMu still did not change their mind on the disputed charge of $199.

So now I get this letter in the mail stating that "We have notified the credit reporting agencies listed below to mark your account as "Disputed by Consumer".

Is this going to hurt my credit? I was going to cancel this card since they are making me pay $199 for a service a merchant failed to deliver but I was advised by a credit counselor to keep it open since it is an older account with a higher available credit and that will help my credit. But now they are reporting me to the credit agencies about this dispute.

BTW, I have removed this card from my wallet and cut it in half and placed it in a safe place since I will not be using this card after all the BS WaMu has made me go through.

JonP,

I do not seeing this hurting your credit in a significant way. I would not lose any sleep over it, and it is true about leaving it open as if you close it it will effect your credit. I think you did a good thing by cutting it up and stashing it away!

Well WAMU sucks, I got charged fully a dollar for what was suppose to be a holding charge for a trial...that and they closed my account on Nov. 4th - didn't mention it either on the auto-call or email or anything - then I put up a charge on nov. 8 and 11 then it got closed due to in-activity, then finally they do everything to finalize it on Nov. 14th where the site says closed account..

Reason they suck? - I am not upset they closed my account due to in-activity, I am upset - well, because I called a bit before I put up the charge on Nov. 8th or so and it said nothing of having my account closed<--- If it would of said closed - I would of just torn the card up and went my way and waited to buy the palm program to put on my Capitalone card..

Then again - lately WAMU was purchased by jpmorgan and chase - so it could be that they jpmorgan and chase went thru the accounts and closed them out for inactivity...-

Still - it took roughly 10 days to close out my account finally.. I owe instead of 11.95 for a product but 12.95 due to their stupid adding a holding charge to get more money... My balance is 10 doillars more, however I'm getting a refund from the company and they WAMU told me that a company could refund on a closed account..

Anyway - to ur Q?

Yes it may hit ur credit score - but by very little - I had 4 accounts - 4 Credit Cards - Capitalone - main and the others just in case of backup as HSBC or whatever bank that was - closed my account way early due to in-activity..However according the WAMU site and the FICO score it shows my account - when updated in November and after my account closed as 799

Anyway I now have two cards and now I'm sure AE is going to close out on me too...yeesh..
