Dealer wouldn't accept my credit card????
So today i went to a honda dealership to buy a motorcycle. after everything was negotiated i wrote them a check (they called and verified the funds were there) and was about to ride off. the owner came up all of sudden and said they wouldn't accept my check because i might put a stop payment. i offered to do a wire transfer or to use my credit/debit card. they said i could use the card but would have to pay the 3 percent or so charge mastercard charges them. so my question is, are they in the wrong legally with mastercard. the purchase was for around $12000. i read that they can't do this from their website but i wasn't sure if there was a maximum limit. i would have called MC but their office was closed and was just interested in getting an answer before the weekend is over.
thanks for your help!!

mmiles3305,

This all seems fishy to me. I have never went to a dealer who turned down any kind of form of payment. If I were you I would just look around for another dealer! Good luck to you and be sure to come back and let us know if you get a motorcycle!

If the dealership wants to charge you a fee for accepting a CC as a form of payment, they are directly violating Visa/MasterCard regulations. You can report this dealership to your CC company; after a warning, if they still do this, they will pay fine and will eventually lose the privelege of accepting CC at their POB.
