Credit Card problem...help guys
Hey guys...

I just have a general question...

Will calling the credit card company for a credit dispute will that cause any harm to the credit history?

No. Requesting a charge back is an every day occurrence for them. Many people have problems with merchants. However, do it often and you'll have a problem.

Shouldn't. But what WILL cause harm to your credit history is if you decide not to make your minimum payment under the assumption that the chargeback counts as a payment. Never argue with the minimum payment.

Example: Minimum payment due is $20. You call in to dispute a $50 from some infomercial con artist like Kevin Trudeau. Credit card company says "OK, we'll take it off your bill". You skip the payment thinking this counts as a $50 payment. Next bill comes along, past due fee.

The ONLY exception to this is if the chargeback makes your balance less than the minimum payment. Then you need only pay enough to zero the balance to avoid a fee and a delinquency on your history (of course it follows that if the chargeback zeroes your balance you owe nothing). But make sure your balance has been reduced first before making this assumption. I would suggest better safe that sorry, make the minpay anyway. Easier to get a refund of a credit balance (just use the card for the amount!) than to fight past due fees and poor credit history.
