It's really about negotiating with the company and talking to the right person. It can be an absolute headache, but persistance usually pays off.

The key with late payments is don't let it happen... If you don't have the money to buy it then don't. It will save you lots of hassel and years of pain!

I am kind of embarrassed to admit this, but recently I got married and we just didn't get it together in time to figure out each of our payment times and such. As a result we have a few late payments on our record. We now pay on time, early, and a extra. I know that they will be on our record for 7 years (stupid us, I know it's our fault, but I'll blame it on our youth and inexperience) but everyone said here that you can call and talk to the right person, any suggestions of how long to wait to call? A couple months, a year, a couple of years? The reason I am SO concerned with it is because there is a possibility that we might be buying a home in the next year or two, if we can.

Important
my score was about 730. 1 late payment 2 years ago dropped it to 650, and now my 2500 dollar credit is maxed that dropped it to 609... if i pay off the 2500 will it bring it back to 605?

In theory yes, if that really is the only reason why it lowered. There's no record of historical balances carried on each line of credit just current balances, so having maxed it out in the past, should have no impact on your current score.

Yousef, it helps if you're still a current customer of theirs. They want to keep your business and don't want to do anything to drive you away. Make sure your account is in good standing with them and just explain to them it's preventing you from getting your student loan and request they remove it. That's about all you can really do, a well planned passionate speech isn't going to help you. ;-)

It does seem kind of odd you were denied because of a single 30 day late payment. Are you sure that's why?

The creditor can remove late payments on your credit report no matter what they say. Doesn't mean they will do it for you. They will usually only remove a late payment if you have a good payment history or you are paying off the entire balance on a settlement.

You can also dispute the late payment to the credit bureaus, but this will remove the entire credit account if successful. It is better to remove the late payment then keep it, no matter how much good credit is attached to it.

Yes it is true if your credit recored is bad you can tolerate some problems you can take loans or not purchase because you are owe of the bank. I suggest you pay your bills regularly and keep clean your credit record.
