Citi Rewards Card Changed
I recieved a notice last month that Citi Rewards card was changing their rewards structure and was no longer offering 5% cash back for Gas, Grocery and drug store purchases. It is now 2% for those but they added utilities to the higher percentage category. It's still 1% on all other purchases.

Can you clarify exactly which card you are asking about? There isn't a card called just 'Citi Rewards'. If they didn't specify in the letter it is most likely still 1%. They should have included a copy of the new T&C with the letter which will say for sure. You can also find the T&C on this site by locating the card you have and clicking the Terms and Conditions link.

Sorry... It is the Citi Platinum Rewards card that I am refering to.

The 2% is not bad but at the rate I use it I won't be able to get much back... I used to get like $300 a year back from this card.

Sorry I can't find a match for that one either. The closes I see is the Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards card. It could be the Platinum rewards is just discontinued for new applicants. Either way my advice is the same. The only sure way to know is to check the T&C or call Citibank.

Yeah I got the same notice too for my citi dividend rewards card. Everything that was 5% is now going to 2% and they added a few extras to the higher percentage category. Kind of sucks because its not easy for me to get another card. Need to get my credit established in the US a little more first.

Well it was good well it lasted... I have switched my Gas purchasing to my Discover card since they still have 5% gas rewards going on... you can sign up for that card by clicking on the Gas section on the left hand menu of this site.

These credit card companies know how to ruin a good thing... They came up with the offer to attract customers and then when they saw that they were attracting customers and the customers were using it they decided it was costing too much money. You will see they will be back at it in a year trying to get all those customers they loose back!
