Hi Jeanie,
Your reply was to the question what is the best card. For me the best cards are cash back.
I have read many threads about the best cash back cards but so much of what I read is not helpful for one reason. The points promised by the different card issuers are based on what kinds of stores or places where you spend the money. Unfortunately, the issuers keep this information well-hidden from the prospective card user.
I would like to suggest a different way of presenting information in a post. Have the poster get his/her figures together to show
a)the total purchases for a year (or other period),
b) the effective (average) point percent earned on those purchases,
c) the kinds of stores or places where most of the money is spent (Walmart, sports, travel, restaurants, etc.)
As an example, I put $16,000 on my Chase Rewards card. The points per cent worked out to 2.6 %. Most of that goes for groceries, and another big chunk goes to Walmart (although we buy a lot of groceries in Walmart too).
Now if someone else were to post that he got an average of 4% on a similar amount and on similar spending, we've have some valuable information, and I would look into getting his card. Then we would not have to break our heads on comparing the obscure conditions (lie tiers, special "Select" stores, etc.) the card issuers throw at us.
What do you think? If you put your thoughts as administrator on this, it would carry some weight and might get some valuable info out there that we all could share.
